And they are (locally to us, in the Wye Valley, UK) sometimes bits of woodland, left as hedges when fields were created - as Wordsworth noted:

Beautiful. I stopped dead in my tracks the first time that I caught a view of hedgerows spreading out across the fields. And although I only spent 4 months in the uk, many things have stuck with me (the hedges are just one). am jealous of your proximity!

Yes, I do believe we’re very lucky. (Luckier still the day I find proof that Wordsworth walked past our house)
